Welcome Aboard
As a proud member of Team Coast Guard, we are U.S. Coast
Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 2-5 serving the Lake Hartwell area.
Lake Hartwell is a man-made
lake bordering Georgia and South Carolina on the Savannah,
Tugaloo, and Seneca Rivers. The lake is created by Hartwell
Dam located on the Savannah River seven miles below the point
at which the Tugaloo and Seneca Rivers join to form the
Savannah. Extending 49 miles up the Tugaloo and 45 miles up
the Seneca at normal pool elevation, The lake comprises nearly
56,000 acres of water with a shoreline of 962 miles. The
entire Hartwell “Project” contains 76,450 acres of land and
water. Interstate 85 bisects Hartwell Lake and makes the area
easily accessible to visitors.
The United States Coast
Guard Auxiliary was established on June 23, 1939 by an act of
Congress as the United States Coast Guard Reserve and
re-designated as the Auxiliary on February 19, 1941. It is a
volunteer uniformed component of the United States Coast Guard
(USCG) and works with the rest of the Coast Guard in all of
its varied missions with the exception that Auxiliary Members
(Auxiliarists) may support the military and law enforcement
mission of the Coast Guard but do not directly participate in
it. As of February 11, 2007 there were 28,142 active
Auxiliarists nationwide.
Flotilla 2-5, has 30+
members from both Georgia and South Carolina that have for
years been active in providing public educational programs,
vessel safety checks, and assisting the U.S. Coast Guard in
non-law enforcement programs such as safety patrols, search
and rescue, and marine environmental protection.
